The UK is experiencing Summer heatwaves more often. You may remember the Summer of 2022 – the weather was lovely with reports of it being not only a sunny spring but an April Heatwave too! Fast forward to 2026, and back-to-back heatwaves were seen throughout the country.
Many people have more time to enjoy the sunshine during the Summer. But, for those with glass extensions and conservatories, the hot weather can make their room extremely uncomfortable. At Specialist Blinds, we have put together some top tips to prevent a very hot conservatory.
Tip 1: Keep Your Blinds Extended When You Are Not Using Your Conservatory.
When you are outside enjoying the sunshine, it’s best to leave your blinds extended throughout the day. This way, when you come to use the conservatory later in the day or evening, the room is cool and comfortable. This is especially important if you use your glass extension as a dining or living area in the evening. It is also an excellent idea to leave your blinds extended overnight as when the sun comes up in the morning the conservatory is protected.
Tip 2: Ventilation is Key!
It is important to remember even with your blinds extended; the hot weather can cause heat to build up gradually in your room. For this reason, cross ventilation is key. We strongly recommend leaving your side windows open throughout the day to prevent heat build-up. It is even better if you have roof windows as leaving these open slightly will also help with ventilation.
Tip 3: Know Your Conservatory
A great tip to prevent your conservatory from getting too hot is knowing how much sun you going to get in your room. For example, those with south facing conservatories, the sun is likely to hit the room throughout the day and evening. Whereas, those with a north facing conservatories will only get sun in certain times of the day and experience only small changes in the room’s temperature. Therefore, knowing how much sun you get throughout the day will help you know when to extend your blinds and open your windows.
Customer Review
A recent customer Mrs R from Cheshire experienced this first-hand with her new side blinds; as they allowed for her to enjoy the conservatory, dining area all year round:
“Our conservatory […] is now our dining room, the blinds are mainly for privacy, but a bonus is they shade us from the sun and help to keep the room cooler.
The work was carried out efficiently from first visit to the blinds being installed. We are delighted with our choice.” For more reviews like this visit our profile on Independent Review Site Checkatrade.
