Bi-fold door blinds are no doubt an elegant and functional addition to any space. But we know that it can be tricky to choose the perfect bi-fold door blinds. They help with both shading and temperature regulation, as they prevent heat from escaping through your glazing. However, there are many different styles to take into consideration when choosing the right bi-fold door blinds for your home. We have detailed which blind styles we would recommend, read on to see our suggestions!

Free-hanging Bi-fold Door blinds

Free-hanging blinds hang in front of a set of doors and retract back into a roll of material – often hidden by a cassette. These are a great option if you only want to control one or two blinds as we can create blinds for large windows and cover the whole set of bi-folds if you wish. Although, having large rolls of material can be difficult to control manually so we would recommend motorised roller blinds for bi-fold doors. These can be installed as remote control blinds, smart blinds and battery powered blinds. This gives you the option to extend the blinds to whichever height you wish.

Our roller blinds come in a variety of transparencies and patterns too. You have the option to have blinds that showcase your view slightly as featured in the image below, or you can choose dim-out blinds for an almost blackout effect. These blinds also act as a layer of insulation between your room and the outside, helping you regulate the temperature in your room.

You can open your bi-fold doors behind free-hanging blinds; this gives you less freedom to go in and out of your doors when the blinds are extended, however.

Recess-Fit Bi fold Door Blinds

Recess-fit blinds for bifold doors are our most popular solution for those wanting to keep their blinds extended and fold their doors back. We fit these blinds close to the glass and you can control them using handles on your blind.

Duette® bi-fold door blinds increase the shading and privacy in your room, as well as thermally regulating it. The honeycomb texture material traps in heat and the made-to-measure fit prevents the heat to escape through your window. Which is why we recommend recess-fit blinds if you’re looking for both temperature control and customisable shade.

Alternatively, you can install a combination of blinds if you wish to preserve the heat in your room even further. For example, we recommend installing roller blinds and recess-fit blinds; this can provide thicker insulating layers against the cold, and create a dim-out effect.

Thanks to our vast experience in the blinds industry, we can say that there are a few bi-fold door blinds styles that we would not recommend to our customers. This is due to different reasons, such as maintenance or practicality. Keep reading to find out which ones these ones are!

What we advise against:

  • Integrated blinds – This type of blinds is difficult to maintain, as they fit between two panes of glass in your bi-fold door frame. Therefore, if there’s an issue with your blinds, they will have to remove the glass too. We do not sell integrated blinds.
  • Perfect-fit blinds – Could be a cost-effective option, but the frame covers a large area of your glazing. Additionally, the bulky frame may interfere with the folding operation of your bi-folds.
