The benefits of blinds in your conservatory or glass extension.

The clock is ticking, and summer is fast approaching. This weekend clocks move forward an hour resulting in lighter evenings and warmer weather. The weather in the UK is somewhat unpredictable, however, in recent years we are getting increasingly warmer and sunnier summers. With the costs of international holidays ever-increasing, many people prefer to spend the holiday season at home.

Why should you think about blinds now?

Increasing temperatures result in warmer rooms, and an area of large glazing if not properly sorted can become extremely uncomfortable throughout the day with high temperatures. These rooms include:

  • Conservatories
  • Orangeries
  • Garden Rooms
  • Extensions with a set of bi-folding doors
  • Lantern roofs

Blinds are very effective at preventing heat from the sun building up inside a conservatory. On many occasions, it is not until the sun comes out that many people decide that they need them installed. A hot conservatory in the summer is something you do not want.

What are the benefits of having blinds in my conservatory?

There are many benefits that you can gain having blinds in your conservatory, one being UV protection. The light from the sun can fade your furniture and flooring. Installing blinds both window and ceiling will allow your room and furniture to stay well protected from any fading; and it will also allow your room to stay cool when the sun is at its hottest. It is key to know the hottest point of the day, allow yourself time to extend your blinds before the sun hits the conservatory. In some cases, this could mean extending blinds the night before so that your conservatory is ready for the incoming sun. Although blinds can prevent a lot of heat entering your conservatory, it is still recommended to allow some form of ventilation. The hot air will be continuously moved out of the conservatory allowing the room to stay cool all day long.

Prevent Having a Hot Conservatory in the Summer

Why is it important to think about blinds now?

Many people have blinds on their ‘to-do-list’ but only remember to action it when summer starts. This is when you are reminded just how hot your conservatory or extension can get during the summer. At this point, it would be too late to do anything about it. By the time you have looked at the range of options, compared quotations, ordering and fitting the blinds it will most likely be too late and the summer with its heat will be over.
