Do thermal Lantern Blinds help with cold in winter?
In the winter time with the energy crisis and the cost of living rising, people are looking to save money wherever they can. Finding a way to heat your home in a cost-effective manner, is on everyone’s mind this winter and that’s where roof lantern blinds can help. We fit our thermal lantern roof blinds in two ways, however, both can aid in insulating your home.
Firstly, we have the horizontal blinds that we install on the base of the lantern. They run along the bottom and retract away to leave your view almost entirely uninterrupted. Additionally, we only require a minimal amount of blinds to cover the whole lantern this way. Sometimes just one or two! Horizontal blinds also have the added benefit of forming a protective barrier between the cool air next to your lantern and the rest of your room, so it’s easier or ‘a smaller room’ to heat when extended. This makes the most of your heating in the winter.
Secondly, our individual layout is when we fit blinds next to the glazing inside your lantern roof. This includes controlling many smaller blinds and is more likely to have slight (minimal) gaps depending on your fabric choice. Overall, we recommend our Duette® thermal blinds range.
Duette® Blinds for Lantern Roofs
Duette® Lantern roof blinds have a pleated hexagonal texture fabric which is made for thermal regulation. In the winter, the pleats trap in a layer of air, preserving heat in your room over the winter period. They are often made wire-free depending on size and can cover your lantern with one or two blinds.
Roller Blinds for Lantern Roofs
Roller Blinds for Lantern Roofs are also effective for insulation as the thick material can act as an insulating barrier. In most cases we can insulate your lantern with just one large blind. We can even make extra large lantern roof blinds that standard blind supplier struggle with, however this may require two blinds.

“This was something my partner and I had discussed doing but was difficult to find the right company and didn’t know where to start! Wonderful blind now installed on our roof lantern, everything from the initial visit to measure the area and quote the different types of options, to the gent who came and installed was excellent and there was no pressure to buy. The heat in the summer was unbearable, now we can have shade when we want/ need it. And we can close the blind in the evening to help retain the heat inside”

In summary, roof lantern blinds can have a major impact on the temperature within your room over winter and even the appearance of it. Free quotations are available on our website today!
