What Are The Best Blinds for Bi-fold Doors?
Many people now have folding doors as a part of their conservatory and orangery. They provide an easy way to let light and air into a conservatory during the warmer months. This does mean that when buying blinds for a conservatory with a folding door; you need to think what are the best blinds for bi-fold doors?
pure™ Pleated Blinds for Bifold Doors
Our pure™ Pleated Blinds are an excellent option for bi-fold doors. Due to the small profile of the pure™ rail; we often install pure™ blinds into the recess of each door by fitting them onto the frame of each door. Therefore, we can install pure™ blinds onto doors that open internally because they don’t interfere with their operation.
Due to folding doors being taller than regular side windows, sometimes the stack can look large and bulky. However, thanks to the design of the pure™ Pleated Blinds, they will retract away neater than any standard blind system.
Duette® Blinds for Bifold Doors
As with pure™ Pleated Blinds, Duette® blinds can also be recess fitted into the frames of the door. We recommend installing our Duette® Blinds for bi-fold doors due to the extra insulation the honeycomb structure of the fabric provides. In comparison to our Solar Design™ Pleated fabrics, the main disadvantage of Duette® is that its double-layer fabric design means the stack will look slightly bigger when retracted.
pure™ Pinoleum Blinds for Bifold Doors
Pinoleum Blinds are a type of Roman Blind so they cannot be recess fitted into a set of bi-fold doors, as the size of the fabric stack when the blinds are retracted would not allow you to properly close the doors. However, we can fit our pure™ Pinoleum Blinds above the doors, so if you have doors that fold out externally they hang just in front of them. This means you can keep your blinds lowered even with your doors open. Shading your room but maintaining a pleasant airflow. Many people opt for a Pinoleum wood weave to compliment a traditional-style conservatory.
Other Blinds
It is possible to use other types of blinds, such as roller blinds or vertical blinds, with bi-fold doors; although as with Pinoleum Blinds they can only be fitted above the doors if the doors fold back externally. It is technically possible to have blinds in a Perfect Fit frame recess fitted into the frames of a bi-fold door, however, it requires the doors to have a larger-than-normal bead depth to allow for the frame to fit. The Perfect Fit blinds still have the same disadvantages that they have in normal conservatory windows. For example, the frame may cover up a portion of the glass. Additionally, we only use classic pleated fabrics when installing The Perfect Fit blinds; which are not designed for conservatory use.
Combination Blinds
In the colder months, bi-folding doors can lose a vast amount of heat through their metal frames. That’s why we recommend installing both a roller blind and individual Duette® or pure™ pleated blinds. The combination of fitted and roller blinds ensures you can keep your home warm this winter. Motorised roller blinds are also particularly effective when shading large areas of glazing, such as a whole wall of bifold doors.
