Using Blinds During the Longer Nights

The clocks have gone back, the nights are darker and the temperature has definitely dropped. Autumn is well and truly with us, and it will be the middle of winter before you know it.  Our blinds are great for colder months as well as the hotter weather.  This is because, they can keep a room comfortable during the long evenings and nights:

Keep in the heat

Blinds can be excellent insulators, so you should extend them before turning on any heating in a room. That way the heat will stay in the room for longer. This means you don’t have to spend as much money to keep the room warm. This is especially important if you have conservatory roof blinds or lantern roof blinds, as that is where the majority of all heat will leave the room.

Reduce glare in the afternoon

The sun will now be lower in the sky during the afternoon and evenings. Consequently, you might find you’re getting more glare coming through your windows, or even your folding doors. Extending your window blinds or folding door blinds during the afternoon will help prevent the glare, but still let in enough light to stop the room from getting too dark.

Use your rooms with increased privacy

A lot of people don’t like to use rooms with a lot of glazing during the autumn and winter. This is because, the dark evenings can make people feel very exposed. Extending any side blinds will increase privacy at eye-level, whereas roof blinds will prevent any neighbours from looking in from above.

While blinds are an excellent way of making rooms more comfortable during the longer nights. There are a couple of things to keep in mind to ensure they are able to work efficiently.

Watch out for condensation

The lower temperatures mean that there is a higher risk of condensation in a room, especially in conservatories. Condnsation can be the first step towards mould growing, which can permanently damage the fabric of your blinds. Stop this from happening by making sure the room is properly heated, and preventing condensation from appearing.e

Operate your blinds regularly

While it can be tempting to keep the blinds extended throughout the autumn and winter, we recommend that they are operated at least once a week to keep them in good working order. It can be beneficial to retract your blinds during certain points of the day; for example if you know the room gets a lot of direct sunlight in the mornings having the blinds retracted will help warm the room up.

The coldest and longest nights have not yet arrived, meaning there is still time to add blinds to a room to make it more comfortable. Arrange a quotation with a member of our sales team, and they can give you advice on which blinds would be best for you.
