Shading Your Extension

Extension Duette Thermal Blinds with honeycomb structure
Posted: 10 Sep 2018

Over the past few years we have noticed a trend in the market – people are moving away from adding conservatories and instead add full extensions instead. Extensions often include a lot of similarities to conservatories or orangeries – such as a glazed roof, folding doors, gables and lantern roofs. However, the room itself is often used as a main area of the home, including rooms such as the kitchen or living room. Therefore, finding a shading for your extension can be hard.

3 Problems & Solutions that extensions and conservatories have in common

Both conservatories and extensions often have similar problems during the hotter or colder seasons, such as:

1. Temperature control throughout the year

As summer ends and we move on to the colder months of the year, the main problems people will start to experience will be issues with cold temperatures. An excellent solution to this problem are Duette® Thermal Blinds. These blinds offer a unique honeycomb structure creating an extra insulating layer.

2. Increase of glare

Glare can be a problem all year round within glass extensions. With colder weather comes a low winter sun which often comes through side windows, and in the warmer months the glare tends to come through the roof glazing such as lantern roofs. Roof windows offer a great opportunity for electric blinds, they keep the glare away and offer a very easy solution.

3. Privacy

Many customers worry about privacy in their glass extension. This  is because, when it’s dark outside everyone can see in but they cannot see out. This becomes more apparent as the days become shorter and the room may not be usable in the winter evenings. With Vision Blinds you are in control of your privacy.
