Insect Blinds - How to Maintain Your Blinds During Fly Season

Maintaining Your Blinds During Fly Season

Duette® Blinds for Conservatory Roof and Windows
Posted: 2 Aug 2017

While the summer is the time of year most people will use the blinds in their conservatory. This is the time of year that flies can make their way into a conservatory and get trapped behind blinds. Especially roof blinds! So whilst it’s helpful to use your blinds as insect blinds and stop them from entering, trapped insects can be a problem. Not only are they visible during sunny days; they can leave marks on the blind fabric itself if left too long. Blinds with Duette® fabric also have the additional problem of having insects getting into the honeycomb structure of the blind. Once trapped, they can cause further marks when retracting the blinds.

Maintenance Visit

Although one of the services we offer as part of our maintenance plan is the removal of any insects or debris that are trapped behind blinds; we don’t recommend you arrange a maintenance visit until after fly season is over, which is usually around October. If we were to visit and clear out any insects during fly season; they would soon reappear after we leave. If you wait until later in the year you can make sure you get the most out of the visit.

Removing An Insect From Blinds

If you are looking to remove trapped insects or debris from our blinds, worry not. Simply remove them from our blinds without needing a visit from a member of our installation team. You can fully unclip our manual pure and Duette® blinds making it easy for you to take them down and clear out anything trapped behind them. You can also rinse our pure™ Fabrics with a shower head or wash them in a bath once removed. Therefore, you can clean any marks or risidue left by unwanted insects.

If it’s not possible to totally unclip the blinds, you can remove an insect by using a hairdryer or air duster. When aimed behind the blind they will blow out anything trapped inside.

If you would like instructions on how you can maintain your blinds, they are available in the MyBlinds customer area on or website. This features videos showing how to unclip the blinds and remove anything trapped.

Maintaining your blinds during fly season is very important. This is because, it ensures the blinds stay working and looking like new for many summers to come.

Customer Review

A recent customer contacted us with a great review referring to our MyBlinds customer area on our website explaining how to remove flies from her blinds: “Due to the shape of our roof, (cleaning insects and debris), was something we hadn’t thought of. And we get a lot of sunlight in the conservatory. This was really important as none of the other companies had spoken about this. (Conservatory Blinds UK are in fact the only company that offer this). The quick release on the blinds for cleaning is fab. My disabled grandson is fascinated with strings and has wrecked his mums blinds twice over, in the past. Paul showed us the perfect fit…problem solved. Every question we had Paul gave us good, concise answers.” For more reviews like this visit our page on independent review site Checkatrade.
