Keeping Our Fitters Cool While Installing Blinds

After the long stretch of dark and gloomy weather, Summer has finally started to arrive, and with the increase in temperature comes the increase in demand of conservatory blinds to help people cool their conservatories.

The increased heat makes it especially difficult for our fitters, who have to spend a lot of time up next to the roof of a conservatory, which is by far the hottest part of a conservatory. With soaring temperatures of over 25°C (80ºF) ambient air temperature (which is measured in the shade) we are seeing temperatures in conservatory roofs approaching 60ºC (140ºF) making it extremely difficult for our Installation Team to work comfortably.

In these circumstances there are a few things we do to try and alleviate the conditions and make it easier for them to work:

• Start work early – if we can start early in the morning, we can avoid the worst of the day's sun
   
• Ventilate the conservatory – creating a through-draft significantly reduces the temperature
   
• Create our own shade – we fit the largest blinds first so that we can work in our own shade
   
• Drink lots of fluids – it is so unbelievably hot at roof level that we lose a lot of body fluids,
   
• Take regular breaks – it is quite easy to suffer heat stroke working in conservatories
   

If you are having your blinds installed during this extremely hot period, please do what you can to help the installer stay cool. The cooler the working conditions, the more productive he will be.
