April Fools?

Just like tens of thousands of other people, we have had a number of leaflets delivered with our free local newspaper, one of which is from Hillarys claiming that they are the UK’s largest conservatory blinds specialist. 

Not only do we believe this to be entirely misleading, but also untrue.

Hillarys are famous for their franchisees fitting cheap house blinds, which is the vast majority of work that they carry out, but they also have a direct-sales side of the business that sells blinds to owners of conservatories too.

Now we don’t know the exact figures, but Hillarys have a huge turnover and we categorically say that they sell far more domestic blinds than any blinds specifically for conservatories.

A specialist is someone who predominantly carries out one task or area of expertise.

Hillarys are not conservatory blind specialists.

They are specialists at providing cheap house blinds – and they have a large share of the market.

As they are members of the British Blind & Shutter Association we will make a formal complaint to the Secretariat but will also do so with Advertising Standards Authority.

Every day of the week we encounter desperate sales reps from blind companies making verbal claims that are exaggerated or outright lies, so we are somewhat immune to this kind of misrepresentation, but very large companies like Hillarys should know better when it comes to putting something into print.

We hope that they put this right and stop claiming something that is bound to mislead customers.
