Guarantee or Warranty - is there a difference?

The difference between a warranty and a guarantee was the focus of a guidance notice issued by the BBSA last month. Often these terms are used incorrectly and even interchanged, often when a retailer is trying to make their guarantee somehow appear better.

This is an issue we take seriously at Conservatory Blinds Limited, as we feel that our customers should not have to pay extra for any replacement blinds that they need.

A guarantee is a promise between the manufacturer and the customer that a product will be of a good standard and, if not, will be fixed within a set amount of time. Guarantees are usually free and are always legally binding. This differs from a warranty, which is more like an insurance policy which must be paid for and is limited in what can be claimed for.

At Conservatory Blinds Limited, we offer a five-year guarantee with all our Pure™ range of blinds being covered by a five year parts and labour guarantee. Most other blinds companies will only cover the cost of the parts in their guarantee, and you would have to pay for any of the labour costs involved. Due to the fact that we employ our own fitters and don’t use subcontractors, we are able to include 5 years’ labour guarantee as standard.

As we don’t believe you should pay for this level of customer care, we don’t offer any warrantees and cover everything with our guarantee.

The only exception to this is with our range of motorised conservatory blinds, where we offer an Annual Maintenance Service for a small extra cost. This service allows us to check your motorised blinds every year to ensure they are currently in top working condition. As most of the problems that arise with motorised blinds are due to improper care (obviously not covered by our guarantee) it is often a lot cheaper to purchase the Annual Maintenance Service than pay for a service call, plus you can have the peace of mind that your motorised blinds will always be in working order.
