Marmite Closes M1 in South Yorkshire

29 November 2011

M1 road delays

A large-scale clean-up operation is under way after a tanker carrying more than 20 tonnes of yeast extract overturned on the M1 last night. The lorry, which was believed to be carrying Marmite, crashed and spilt its contents onto the carriageway at about 22:15 GMT on Monday.

The M1 is closed in both directions between J33 and J32 and the link road from the M18 southbound to M1 northbound (J32) is also closed due to this incident. The Highways Agency expects the road to be opened around 10.00am but there are severe traffic delays.

Whilst this might make an amusing headline, if you live in Yorkshire and are expecting an appointment from one of our conservatory blinds installers today, please be aware that there may be delays and we may even have to postpone your appointment.

We will contact you if we believe that you are affected.

We would apologise for any delays or disruption, however this will only be due to matters beyond our control.

For up to the minute reports on the traffic visit the Highways Agency web site.
