You Can’t Always Trust a Conservatory Blinds Saleswoman
An elderly couple tell us that a saleswoman from a well-known competitor of ours recently quoted £18,000 for 12 manual blinds... literally quoting £1,500 per blind. To provide you with the background: a very high quality conservatory builder recommends the 3 biggest conservatory blinds companies and so the couple in question contacted these companies, obviously one of them being Conservatory Blinds Limited. Only 2 of the 3 companies made appointments quickly and we attended first. The next company sent what we are told was their "top earning Sales Designer". The sales lady in question clearly judged the elderly couple to be well-off (which was obvious) but also assumed that they were vulnerable (far from true) so tried to take advantage of them. Apparently after quoting £18,000 the saleswoman continued to chip away at her price until eventually reaching £5,000 - some hours later. This isn't the first time that we have heard of this company's salespeople effectively dropping a price by 75%, proving that their original price was ridiculous. The customers were quite rightly appalled at this behaviour, particularly as they did not want their pleated blinds at all and had requested pinoleum blinds. It was clear that the saleswoman would happily have taken their order at £18,000 had they been naive enough to have been pressured into it. After many hours the saleswoman eventually left. Apparently her parting comment was that she would match any other quotation, although the customers were not sure exactly why that would be of any interest to them... We visited the day prior, spent an hour and a half with the customers explaining our blinds and left a written quotation for pinoleum blinds exactly as requested by the customer for a price of approximately £4,750, including a number of window blinds. The customers did not bother with the third company and called us back to place their order as we had provided what they wanted without any inflated prices, fake discounts, disinformation or hard-selling. Unfortunately this kind of utterly disgraceful and completely immoral type of selling is commonplace within the conservatory blinds industry because these companies are set up purely as direct-sales businesses - they just happen to sell blinds.
