Make Sure Your Conservatory is Child Safe This Christmas

A lot of people use their conservatories as a space for entertaining over the Christmas holidays - especially if they have blinds to keep the heat in during the day. This means there will be a lot of people in the conservatory that aren't usually there, including young children.

Most people without children may not think about how child-safe their blinds actually are, but if you'll be entertaining guests with young children over the holidays it's very important that you make sure everything is safe now, while there is time to do it.

If you have a "safe by design" style of blind, such as our pure™ Pleated, purePinoleum and Duette® blinds then you shouldn't have anything to worry about, as they do not use any dangerous looped cords in their operation. Likewise, all types of motorised blinds should be safe as they do not need any type of cord to be used.

If the blind uses a looped blind cord for its operation - such as venetian blinds or roller blinds - then you need to make sure the cord is able to be safely tied away out of reach of any children; the current child safety guidelines specify that all cords must be tied off at least 1.5 meters away from the ground.

The BBSA has put together an expansive guide on how to ensure your blinds are child safe on their Make It Safe website, and have also put together this video with information on how to modify your existing blinds to make them child safe:
